Ripper began playing guitar at an early age, supported by his father who was also a guitarist. Soon he began playing in several high school bands, one of which was the newly formed Soundfreek. Ripper brought a different view to Soundfreek, coming from a hard-rock and metal background. This element is evident in later Soundfreek recordings, where he began to take part in the composition process. He also had two side projects: Parcas, a metal band, and Doble Filo, a punk/metal band. He left the band in August 2002, when he emigrated to Boston, MA, USA, to study at the renowned Berklee College of Music.
